The Heretics can be found in Paineel. Erudin and Paineel are in a state of war. Erudin is a longstanding city of magic but was opposed to Necromantic magic. At first the Heretics simply fled into the nearby Tox Forest, but they then moved into Paineel on the opposite side of the forest from Erudin. The Tox Forest is now a battleground between the two cities.
In Paineel can be found three Guildmasters. The Clerics are led by Sern Adolia, the Necromancers by Coriante Verisue and the Shadow Knights by Mandaril Dark Knife. The Heretics have no allies but they oppose those in Erudin. They oppose the clerics and paladins of Deepwater Knights, and the three magic user guilds: Gate Callers, Craft Keepers and Crimson Hands.
If you don't care about Erudin faction, then slaughtering the guards in Erudin & Erudin Palace is the way to go. I just cleared the dock area in Erudin, then zoned into Erudin Palace and cleared the guards there as well. In total I did this maybe 2 or 3 times (probably took like 45 mins to an hour) and I was max ally Heretics (and Kerra) and max KoS to Erudin. This was with a Bertoxx Necro Human starting at Dubious faction.
Last night, my level 21 dark elf necromancer got himself a Paineel key while his faction was still dubious. I had someone let me into the city, and once in, I cast "Dominate Undead" (a level 20 necro spell) on one of the two guards near the bottom of the elevator. Fortunately, it stuck and my new pet guard immediately attacked the other elevator guard (who by this time was hitting me because of what I'd done to his buddy :P). A charmed guard cons amiable to the charmer (and indifferent to everyone else). While my guard was still charmed, I asked him for a key and he gave me one with no problems. I took a negative faction hit with Heretics for killing the other elevator guard (I could have just gated and never taken the faction hit; I didn't bother, though), but past experiments with my paladin (who has maxed his faction with Heretics) have revealed that it only takes a dozen or so unnamed kobolds in the Warrens to make up for a single guard kill hit.
Having a key makes it much easier to raise the faction because you can then do the kobold molar quest without begging for someone to activate the elevator for you. The molar quest can be done at dubious, too, if you're a little sneaky. First, initiate a trade with the quest NPC, but before actually pressing the trade button, you need to hide, sneak, or have a friend cast Invisibility or Camo on you (you can't cast yourself while you have an NPC trade window open). If successful, the NPC will become indifferent. Then press "Trade" and you'll get credit for the quest. With my own key and a "Hide" hotkey, I was able to get from "dubious" to "amiable" after only an hour or so of killing kobolds and turning in molars.
Actually, according to Lucy's entry for the Terror Forged Mask, it can only be clicked from inventory if you're able to equip it. So in other words, you'd need to be an erudite or human cleric for that to work.
Always check Lucy if you need to know something like that. Lucy's items are gathered using software that analyzes the packets going to and from the server as well as the RAM in use by the client to get its information, meaning it's always 100% accurate.
Vah Shir start off KOS in Paineel, but it wasn't that hard to get to dubious. I just killed the named mobs for fun, and kicked the prince around a few times to get the dice bag for the Yarn Ball quest (the thing can be a lifesaver - dont knock it). Now to get to amiable from dubious I'm going to get an Aego or Virtue, get mass agro, and Gale of Poison the kobolds, or talk a druid into coming along with me. I don't have the patience to spend hours on end tearing something up for faction so I have to hope it wont take too long :)
Hmm, my Vah Shir Beastlord with no faction modifications visited Paineel and found himself dubious. Maybe it's different as a Shaman, but I was not KOS.
First of All im a 52 druid who was kos to Heretics but am not threatingly after a few hrs of decimating the kobold population, what I do is load up on Ac and Hp buffs load my Point Blank Ae spells upheaval for 677, and earthquake 300 something, i gather anywhere between 10-100 kobolds at a time and i stand ina corner trying to channel threw there hits, It has never failed and my biggest Massacre was 105 kills with a single spell, imagine me doing this for 4hrs and just get threatingly from it, so faction here is pain in *** to raise dont give up.
I've slaughtered kobolds for days, real days, personally cut down the King, the High Shaman, and each named mob (that give faction) in the zone dozens of times over. I am now threateningly. I am a barbarian shaman, and I bear form, regen, and haste myself after complete level 30 buffs, and tears some @#$% up, only taking moderate damage on the few mobs that are still blue to me. So can anybody shed some light on why my faction is still ****-poor? Odus was never a hunting ground for me, and I can't recall ever killing a mob that reduced my Heretics faction.
Cause you started out so KOS to them. It's hard for non evils to get non KOS here, though you can eventually get ally. I'd get to 34 first for the pet, then come back. Should be much easier then.
I am wondering what the "default faction" is for non-Erudite paladins. That is to say, how do non-Erudite paladins con to the Heretics before they take any faction hits? I'm a human paladin of Erollisi Marr, and have long since degraded my relationship with the Heretics; without creating a new character and running to Odus, I have no way of knowing.
Just guessing but I would expect so. However, you can easily remedy that. My Iksar monk was once an enemy of this faction, but after just a few hours of Kobold hunting he was a welcomed citizen of Paineel. And sense Paineel is all on one faction you can just simply con the guards at the gates to the city once they reach dubious you're free to wander the city (providing you can find someone to let you in and out). Once you reach apprehensive you can get a key of your own, then you can shop, bank, train if you are a Necro/SK, and anything else you can think of in this city.
I suspect so. My troll certainly is. Just sneak past the guards in the newbie zone, and head to warrens. Kill everything, and everyone elses kills a few times and eventually you'll get faction. Then hand in molars from kobolds to raise it faster, and get some loot along the way.
My 51st human paladin (who worships Mithaniel Marr) has been bringing a holocaust down upon the kobolds in the Warrens for 8+ hours now (in excess of 1000 kobold kills) and he is still being scowled at by the Paineel guards. I'll admit, I've taken maybe five negative hits with the Heretics over the past year, but this seems ridiculous to me. Anyone have any suggestions?
- Tarwen Warspyre (51st Cavalier of Mithaniel Marr)
Half-elf ranger of Karana took 1324 Kobald kills to raise to amiable, which is enough to get the key to Paineel. The first 1000 kills only got me to aprehensive, the last 300 or so were enough to breeze through indifferent to amiable.
If I had know this before I started I never would have done it, but after the first two hours there was no stopping until I could get that key. Not that I needed it.
Well, for anyone who may be interested, I'm now regarded warmly by the Paineel residents. I have a feeling my Paineel faction was bottomed out before I started. Here's a rundown of what it took me to fix this faction:
About 3,500 kobold kills brought me from scowling to threatening.
About another 1,200 kills maxed my faction. Oddly, it maxed at warmly, not allied.
As for kill ratios, in the Warrens I killed the King, High Shaman, and Loremaster 10-15 times each, the Foodmaster, Smithy, cave bat lord, Huntmaster, Prince, Jailer, and Trainer about 5 times each, and the Packmaster once. The rest of the kills consisted of 300 or so unnamed kobolds in Stonebrunt (plus one named... can't remember what the name was), with the remainder being various unnamed kobolds in the Warrens.
I have been killing kobolds in stonebrunt and warrens from level 18 thru level 21. I started threateningly and have moved up to dubious. I worship innoruk. Will I eventually become indiff or better if I keep killing kobolds? If so how many more levels do I have to kill here? I want to be able to shop in Paineel for supplies. At dubious I can't shop, but I can bank if someone lets me in the city. Also what faction do I need to get my own key to paineel?
Iksar Necro just wondering what would be the fastes way to increase Heretic faction. People say the quickess way would to go on a genocide in Warrens. I was thinking that Kobalds may be small fries compared to good Erudits. ) Anyway, which should i kill to raise faction the fastes route for at least indiff faction?
P.S. Im looking more to the Kobalds for 1) gives good Heretic faction and Erudite Gaurd faction, 2) Less threat of me dying. But hey whats EQ without some excitement?
Don't fight in stonebrunt. If you want to fight just for faction storm through Warrens and kill everything you see. In the matter of 3 hours me (A Erudite Pally) is now ally to the Guards of Erudin and the Heretics.
I am an Erudite SK. My sweetheart is an Iksar warrior worshipping Cazic-Thule. I am working on my Cab faction, and we were thinking of his Heretics. Having faction in his city has numerous advantages for me.
The question is would there be any advantages to having faction with the Heretics other than roleplaying purposes for him? How hard would this be? Is this done pretty much by killing in Warrens?
Any advice from those who have worked on this faction is very welcome. Thanks.
Gukal da mighty Trollish warrior hunted kobolds in Inn. Swamp when he was younger. These doggies didn't give any positive faction ... so must be a different clan. Don't hunt in da swamp ta make nice wit da Erudites cuz it won't work fer ya. Plus da Troll slayers and basher will get ya if ya try. <grin>
Tee Hee. The 'guy in the window' is Duriek Bloodpool--one of the NPC's for the SK epic. He's on TrueSpirit, not Heretic faction. Easiest way to gain faction with the heretics that i've found is to go slaughter kobalds in the warrens. I went from scowl-indiff in about 2 hours and from indif-amiable in about another 2. At amiable you can ask someone to let you down the lift and say to the guard by lift 'I need a key'. You will be rewarded with your very own key to Paineel (not soulbound). Hope this helps, and yes I'm pretty sure anyone who isn't a heretic is going to be either KOS or at glare at first.
I am an Agnostic monk. I am KOS to the guards, and to Noclin Saah, right off, but dub to that guy in the window above. I hope to get enough faction so that I'm not, soon though.
