Ergrez Shortpaw may be found at 1071.65, 2417.22, 35.11.

Ergrez Shortpaw makes armor for his village and is willing to make some for you if you bring him twice what it takes to make the armor. Each piece seems to take a combination of two animal pelts and two of some other item.

I don't yet know the combinations or the rewards. If you discover one and find out the reward, please hit the send a correction button and e-mail in the combination and the reward.

Once I know the reward, I will split off each piece into its own quest description.

These are the ones I think are valid so far:

- Low Quality Cougar Fur and Fatty Walrus Meat
- Medium Quality Cougar Fur and Cutting Shells
- Dire Wolf Fur and Dark Bindings

This one I know the result of:

- High Quality Cougar Fur and Mammoth Meat -- See the quest Cougarskin Mask under Iceclad Ocean Quests.

Need /loc of quest mob, all dialogues, faction hits if any, quest items involved, rewards, etc.

Has anyone tryed mandicore manes or snow griffon items Just a thaght or maybe even giant meat? Seems to me all the items used in this quest are from GD EW IC so maybe the items he needs are not just animal or the mobs needed to complete quest get higher and higher as with a lot of quests do...
Nice Cloak for 3 gold

I did this quest for the Direwolf hide cloak last night with my 8th level Wood Elf warrior alt. I must say it was one of the more entertaining times I've had in EQ.

I sued PoK, bound there. I dropped down to Dreadlands and beebopped over to Thurgadin where I bought the MQ Dire wolf fur for 3 gp and change.

I then hugged the wall and zoned into Eastern Wastes to look for the skinning stones. This is where it gets exciting. You really have to be on your toes to avoid contact, but it can be down. Don't even bother with SoW because you want to move slow, look and listen. Giants where only threatening to me, so aggro radius was small. The only MOB that gave me problems were the snow dervishes--so I avoid their areas.

I stayed in the 'square' betwixed the giant fort, Ry'gorr fort, Kael, and Sleeper. Once you get past the the rolling hills near the DL zone and into the more open flat land it's pretty easy to see the danger. If a snow storm pops up, I suggest waiting it out ontop of the dragon at sleepers. I only died twice looking for the stones, once from the dervishes and once from the Kromrif Death Squad. But at 8th level, dying is not a huge deal.

I found the two stones in about two hours total-dying and run back included.

The turn in at Ergrez is pretty straight forward. You can either have fun with your under 10lvl character and try to make it to Ergrez from EW. Or you can take a deathbed teleport back to PoK, drop down to North Ro and sail over to the gnome pirates.

I was indifferent to Ergrez. He did not respond to hail, but the turn in worked fine.

Caution. Do not bind in the EW area. Use your death as a way to get out. And do it BEFORE you reach a level where you have to start recovering your corpse or loosing xp.

Hope this helps any adventurous young ones out there.

i have one question per your message above..

"I sued PoK, bound there. I dropped down to Dreadlands and beebopped over to Thurgadin where I bought the MQ Dire wolf fur for 3 gp and change. "

How do you "drop into Dreadlands and beebopped over to Thrugadin"??

Dreadlands is in kunark and Thurgadin is in Velious.... Would it not be faster to POK book it to GD?

I am not saying it can't be done getting the items your way. I am just wondering why you ran so far?? 8P
just my 2cp pick over
good luck everyone

Get one for you alts

It took me a little over an hour to equip 3 of my low lvl alts with one of the Dire wolf cloaks. Here how it works. Kill Dire Wolfs until you have 1 med fur for each alt and transfer them to the alts then camp alts in the hut by Ergrez. Then go to EW and hunt for skinning stones until you find 2 for each alt. I have found that they are most common around the Dragon Corpse area. Run back to Ergrez and hand him 2 stones unstacked, camp out log alt and hand him 1 med fur. Results will = a Dire wolf Fur Cloak +7AC +5 Str not a bad item for a low lvl alt. Just make sure nobody is around Ergrez when you hand him the Stones so they don't mess up the quest. This is usually not a problem.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 25 2001 at 11:16 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) is it me, or does it seem like GMs are getting pretty damn lazy. The only help I have seen GMs deliver, is if your stuck at the botom of Norrath- then they gladly come within 2 hours and zap you with their magic stick and politely tell you to begone.

First of all, the GM's are not responsible for fixing the bug. That is up to the development team. Did you fill out a bug report? The GM's aren't obligated to report bugs to the guys who write the script, that's why we have the ability to report bugs ourselves.

Secondly, the GM's are ALWAYS busy, EVERY day. You got stuck somewhere, someone else lost an item because he went LD, John Doe is complaining that someone else is harassing him. C'mon, being a GM is no walk in the park. I took a look at the questionnaire you have to fill out to become a Guide, and it surprised me. I had no idea they had to do and know so much stuff. Take it easy and give the GM's a break, they're doing the best they can.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 29 2002 at 4:43 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Wether they are busy or not they are supposed to be there to help. If that is not there purpose WHAT is? They have never once helped me or any of my friends. I have petitioned over half a dozen times for very good reasons.none of which were lost items or harassment. It is true that you need to fill out the bug report. Hint ... the Gm wont. The Gm will not find a brake from me unless they prove there better than angry highschool hall monitors... Lvl 51 SK ..

Sort of Bugged:

LQ Cougar pelt is needed and:

2 STACKABLE Walrus meats... seems like the regular un-Stackable kind that drops off walruses are wrong...

Told GM, told me he couldn't do anything about it... as I had the "wrong" items... then he sent a bug-report in to coding...

hmm... I have the wrong items to a "bugged" quest... oh well... what I really want is the mask... dang mammoth meat

I gave him 1 HQskin and 2 Mammy meats for the mask.. np ;) -not sure of my faction..
And after again reading through all the info here.. And btw.. not a bad posting thanks all..
I think..<--- underlined word.. that it seems all the quests for Egrez are 1 skin, and 2 items..
So, Id say, 1 LQ cougar, and 2 walrus has to be it.. but as said below.. faction must be the difference...

From other posts these combination shave NOT worked for Lq skin

1 lq cougar hide 2 walrus meat
2 lq cougar hide 2 walrus meat
2 lq cougar hide 1 walrus meat
1 lq cougar hide 3 walrus meat

I tried the following today with INDIFFERENT faction, note I have already done the mask quest.

1 lq cougar skin 1 walrus meat
3 lq cougar skin 1 walrus meat
1 lq cougar skin 1 ulthork meat
1 lq cougar skin 2 ulthork meat

Also from other posts, here the GM said the quest did work. In one case the guy was"missing something" besides the ingredients. I agree must be faction. "Different combinations" is only 4 turn in slots. WE have tried all walrus meat/lq hide combos. None have worked. i have a character who is at least amicable, but she wa unable too get any walrus meat to try. Will try some combos with her next.

To add to this. With amiable faction
1 lq cougar skin 1 walrus meat did not work.

Getting my faction above amiable is looking grim. Have gone from apprehensive to amiable 3 times with othmirs and still only amiable with the gnolls, grrrr.(othmir are on my to kill list for furs, fix faction with ulthorks) Ulthork/walrus kills is approaching a thousand if not over. These damn sleeves better be worth it.

I have noticed that when Ergrriz (the assistant) is pacing the roof of the hut, Ergrez does NOT respond to hails, nor to anything spoken to him.

From a log file:

You say, 'Hail Ergrez Shortpaw'
You say, 'what armor?'
Ergrez Shortpaw says 'Many armors. All of animal hides from the islands. If you wanting armor then I can make for you. All I ask is you do me favor.
You say, 'what favor?'
Ergrez Shortpaw says 'Snowfangs in need of much help lately. Once we mighty but now weak. You help us get stronger. If you want armor of wolves or cougar then I need you bring twice as many materials. For each thing you wanting I need thing. Just tell me what furs you have and I tell you what I need.
You say, 'what skin?'
Ergrez Shortpaw says 'Yes. I take skin of animal that hunters catch and make into things. Very important, very big job for clan.

You say, 'i have low quality cougarskin'
Ergrez Shortpaw says 'More cat skin. You bring more meat but this time bring walrus meat. Many gnolls need for fat. Keeps gnolls healthy.

You say, 'i have medium quality cougarskin'
Ergrez Shortpaw spits. 'Grrrrr. More cat. All I need for this is cutting shells. We not get them much but I need.'

You say, 'i have high quality cougarskin'
Ergrez Shortpaw growls loudly. 'I not like making things of cat fur. Smells bad, hurts nose. You want me to work with that you bring food, lots of food. You bring me mammoth meats.'

You say, 'i have low quality dire wolf fur'
Ergrez Shortpaw says 'Bad fur I make into cap for head. Keep your small furless skull warm. You bring me two bark bindings for that. Bindings for sewing.

You say, 'i have medium quality dire wolf fur'
Ergrez Shortpaw says 'Good wolf fur I make you cloak. All it take for cloak is fur and skinning rock. I need two skinning rock though. I very low on rocks.

The following gave no response:
You say, 'i have tundra kodiak hide'
You say, 'i have high quality tundra kodiak hide' <- I know it is for the ring quest.
You say, 'i have walrus fur'
You say, 'i have high quality walrus fur'
You say, 'i have high quality walrus hide'
You say, 'i have high quality walrus pelt'
You say, 'i have high quality walrus skin' <- gives the same response as "what skin?"

Recently discovered pelt: High Quality Dire wolf.
I will check after the patch. Since a GM (Leycrow) stated clearly that 2 LQ cougarskins and 2 walrus meats was wrong (and also stated "try different combinations"), I will be trying 3 meats and ulthorg meats (they look like walking walruses don't they?)

I don't see where anyone has tried additional pelts. Takes one HQ cougar then two MQ cougar so maybe the next step will be three LQ cougar or Four LQ cougar. I have seven of them now (the LQs) and we just found the breeding grounds of the walruses so after the patch my brother and I will get some walrus meat and try out the combos. We have our low level chars that may benefit from the sleeves camped where we can log in log out to pick up the No Drops. So if the walrus meat is no drop we can handle that and the LQs can be passed around. Let you guys know when we're done. Also might help for you to spend some time getting all the dialouge out of the Tailor and his helper it will give you some info that you seem not to have. I admit for me it's much more simple since I've already tried every shape and buffed the faction on them but give it a try anyway because my level 14 Pally was able to get the same info from them and my level 23 monk.

I have gotten the mask and cloak from Ergrez Shortpaw (sp). The mask is obtained by giving him 1 HQ Cougar Skin and 2 Mammoth Meats. The cloak is obtained by giving him 1 MQ Dire Wolf Pelt and 2 Skinning Stones. The skinning stones are found on the ground in EW.

LQ Cougar-Does it work?
# Jan 04 2001 at 3:24 PM Rating: Decent
I have tried giving 2 LQ cougarskins and 2 walrus meats but I got nothing in return, no trumpets, no comment from Ergrez.

I myself have tried giving the following combinations, to no avail:

2 LQ cougarskins and 2 walrus meats
1 LQ cougarskin and 2 walrus meat

If I have time, I'm going to give Ulthork meat a try. I can get an infinite supply of LQ cougar off the gnomes at the igloos. 8cp a pop. hehe

The low quality skin quest is broken as is.

I have tried it 7 times. At first I thought that perhaps I didn't get anything because I didn't have an empty item slot. But that didn't work either. Have tried 1 skin and 2 meats, 2 skins and 2 meats, 2 skins and 1 meat. Nada.

Since I have done the mask and cloak quest first time each, I suspect that this quest is broken for now. Perhaps tomorrow's patch will fix it.

Just to add that I've tried a pelt with two meats and a pelt with three meats. Seeing as no-one has posted anywhere what the result is I'm assuming this is broken.
RE: LQ Cougar-Does it work?
# May 15 2001 at 7:00 PM Rating: Default
Ok, this quest is NOT broken. After 3 petitions and 2 bug reports, a GM turned in walrus meat and a LQ cougarskin and got the sleeves. He told me that I got the right items but there's something that I'm missing. It could only be faction. I was thinking maybe the faction has to be at least warmly. Going after more walruses tonight, will get faction to warmly then try again.
RE: LQ Cougar-Does it work?
# Jun 17 2001 at 2:13 AM Rating: Default
No. I was told by a GM tonight that 2 walrus meats and 2 LQ cougarskins is not it. I was told to "try different combinations." I have submitted 3 bug reports and 2 petitions. I guess I will try to get ulthorg meat and try it, also yakman meat (its no drop).

Frankly, I will wait till the next patch before trying again. Takes too long to run over there and "try different combinations."

Ergrez gives another quest too. Tell him "I have a high quality dire wolf fur" and he asks for the fur and two "Skinning Stones" which are egg looking nodrop ground-spawn items in East Wastes.

The reward for this is a nodrop cloak (I think called Dire Wolf Hide Cloak) that is AC 7(?) and plus 5 STR. I deleted it once I saw it was nodrop and I did not really need it.
RE: Another one...
# Dec 21 2000 at 5:07 PM Rating: Excellent
I did the the Dire Wolf Fur Cloak quest last night with a Medium Quality dire wolf fur and the two skinning stones.

AC 7 and Str +5 is correct. Not sure what classes/races can use.

#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 25 2000 at 8:00 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This cloak would be awesome for me!
