This is the Vah Shir Beastlord quest series. You must first do the citizenship quest.

Part 1 - Handwraps

Animist Poren needs to see your Acrylia Slate.

Animist Poren says "I have much for you to do . There is a great need for capable Khati Sha in this new land. It is important that you progress speedily. We need to outfit you with the equipment that defines our chosen path. We'll start with your battleclaws, but be aware of the fact that it will take you some time.before you can use both sets in combat. Just keep them both with you while you learn.

Animist Poren says "Take this stitching pack and combine two shadeling silks from the xakra worms. Combine two of the threads to make a bandage. Take this pattern and sew together three of the bandages. With considerable practice this will produce the handwraps that will be a foundation for your first sacred weapon. When you have created them retuen to me the scrap material.

He then gives you a Khati Sha Handwrap Pattern and a Stitching Pack.

To make the handwraps:

(1) Combine two shadeling silks in the Stitching Pack to make a Shade Silk Thread. Silks are found on the Xakla Larvae in the pit (Shar Vahl) and on the Xakla Silkworms in Shadeweaver's Thicket.
(2) Combine 2 Shade Silk Threads in the Stitching Pack to make a Shade Silk Bandage.
(3) Combine 3 Shade Silk Bandages and the Khati Sha Handwrap Pattern to make Khati Sha Handwraps.

Successfully making the Handwraps (which is possible with a Tailoring skill of 4 - though unlikely!) also generates a Silk Scrap. Return the scrap to Animist Poren for part 2 of the quest

Part 2 - Claws

Upon giving Animist Poren the Shade Silk Scraps:

Animist Poren says, 'That took quite some time considering the simplicity of the task. Please _______, work on becoming more efficient. We have much to do and time is of the essence. In your stitching pack, combine the handwraps, two young hopperclaws and forged fasteners. Return to me with the resulting claws and your [initiate's cloak.]'

You gain experience!

You say, 'What initiate's cloak?'

Animist Poren says, 'You should have received your initiate's cloak if you presented your acrylia slate and notarized application to Elder Animist Sahdi. You can give those two items to him if you have not already and receive your cloak.'

You say, 'What are forged fasteners?'

Animist Poren says, 'Perhaps one of our smiths can assist you with the forged fasteners. I'd check the armory.'

Ask Kagazz about "Forged Fasteners". He is behind the armoury by the forge at (/loc 254, -182, -189).

You say, 'Can you make forged fasteners?'

Kagazz squints as he reads your lips, 'Fasteners you say? Show me your slate and I'll make you a deal.

Give him your Acrylia Slate of Sharl Vahl. He returns it and says:

Kagazz says, 'My wife is making some jewelry. Not the sparkly stuff, mind you. She is nearly blind so appearance means little to her. She is intent on making jewelry with a more, uhh, natural feel. Currently she's constructing a special scorpion leg necklace, and is in need of more scorpion legs. I can't leave the shop so I need your help. Fill this box with scorpion legs and I'll pay you with metal fasteners that any merchant will gladly buy.'

Collect four NO TRADE "Scorpion Leg" or four "Scorpion Legs" (these latter are marked as QUEST ITEM and are stackable). Either will work but they cannot be mixed. Combine these in the box Kagazz gave you to receive Box of Scorpion Legs. Return this to him to receive one (1) Forged Fasteners. Also note that the fasteners are NO TRADE so any merchant will not, in fact, gladly buy them as he claimed.

Upon Turn in:

Kagazz says, 'Ahh, _______! I thank you, my wife will be most grateful. Here are the fasteners I promised you. You know ______, there was a time that young, would-be smiths would seek my approval so that they could study the ways of the forge under my tutelage. That was back when I was Master Smith, before I named Barkhem my successor.'
You gain experience!

Combine:

1x Forged Fastners,
2x Young Hopperclaw,
1x Khati Sha Handwraps,
In the Stitching Pack

On successful combine, you receive Primary Silk Khati Sha Claw and Secondary Silk Khati Sha Claw. NOTE: the Handwraps are lost in the combine and are not returned in a later stage of the quest.

Return both Silk Khati Sha Claws AND your Initiate's Cloak of Shar Vahl to Animist Poren. Animist Poren is at 275, 47, -258. Enter the castle (west central district), descend the stairs, and turn right. Walk through the arch and turn right again. Descend the stairs at the end of the hallway. Enter the door and take the door on your left. Animist Poren is in this room.

Upon Turn In:

Animist Poren says "Well, you're off to a slow start, but it is a start. You will do well to accomplish your tasks in a more timely fashion. You have chosen a path full of trials, . I say again, time is of the essence. Take my seal to Mahron Sood and prepare yourself for the upcoming challenges."

You gain experience!

You recieve: Reinforced Primary/Secondary Claws as well as the Cloak of The Khati Sha Recruit and the Seal of Animist Poren

Animist Poren shouts " Friends, I have news to share! It has taken longer than it should, but at last has completed our initiatory tasks and will now be given the priveleges reserved for the Khati Sha recruits!. Soon we hope to have this citizen ready to aid in the exploring of this new land. Please give support in whatever ways you can and trouble this recruit as little as possible, for seems to be easily distracted."

Animist Poren says, 'Perhaps one of our smiths can assist you with the forged fasteners. I'd check the armory.'

Kagazz (254, -182, -189) stands behind the armory which is located in the northwest corner of the Merchant's Quarter (east central district). Look for a building with a symbol bearing a shield and two crossed swords. Kagazz is outside on the east side of this building. He can provide Forged Fasteners. There is no hint text. Say the following with him targeted:

This text does not seem to be related to the Khati Sha questline, but Kagazz does not mention Barkhem otherwise. Master Barkhem is inside the armory selling smithing supplies as well as offering the Vah Shir smithing quest.

You say, 'Where is Barkhem'
Kagazz blushes a bit and says, 'No no, you are the gem my friend. You remind me a bit of Barkhem... he was my best student ever. When the work of being Master Smith got to be too much for someone my age, it was quite easy to decide who would fill my shoes. These days anyone wanting to learn the ways of the smith go to him.'

Combine the fasteners from Kagazz, two young hopperclaws, and the Khati Sha Handwraps in your stitching pack to receive Primary Silk Khati Sha Claw and Secondary Silk Khati Sha Claw. NOTE: the gloves are lost in the combine and are not returned in a later stage of the quest.

Note: no faction hits associated with any part of this quest. The only faction hits are in the citizenship pre-requisite quest. Animist Poren is at 275, 47, -258. Thanks! I rewrote the quest to be in order so its less confusing. However I'm a little confused where the Recruit claws come into play. I still have them attached as quest items but I have the reinforced claws as the actual reward from finishing.

To be honest I'm not sure either. I tried to keep decent notes as I was doing this and I don't recall encountering them. They are better than the silk claws (5/35) but inferior to the reinforced claws (7/28), so it would make sense that they were some incremental reward along the way. Perhaps an older version of the quest reward before the 7/28 claws were introduced? In either case, you don't have the Secondary Silk Khati Sha Claw listed as associated with this quest in the database. Not looking to nitpick, but I noticed and figured it can't hurt to mention :)

There are several items that you can collect while doing these quests. I
Have put together these listings in the hope it will save you a little time
going back and forth to areas or zones.

The items I have marked Tradeskill are the basic items required. To account
for combine failures, you will likely require many more than just the basic
number. The final four items are needed to create items for trade with the
other Vah Shir classes. You will need at least 5 of each. One for yourself
and four to create the items you will need to trade for the other class items
you require.

*******************************************************************************

Beastlord Items

12 Shadeling Silks Xakra Larvae Pit (Tradeskill)
2 Young Hopper Claws Young Rockhoppers Pit (Tradeskill)

Upon handing in the note to Rittuh Purrik...

Rittuh Purrik says 'Thank you for coming. We need all of the extra personnel we can muster. The larger creatures of the moor have been engaging in what appears to be some sort of organized combat for some time now. Their behavior is rather disturbing if you ask me. Not that you would ask me of course. Sure sure... I know... all I do is talk. Anyway, the bigger creatures have kind of scared the smaller creatures towards us. That's why we need you. Everyone needs to do their part to keep this place clean. Take this bag and fill it with hopper tails. Once you're done, bring it back here and I'll square you away.'
Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.

She hands you a bag and you have to fill it with 6 Young hopper tails that drop off the rock hoppers...

Upon handing the bag in...

Rittuh Purrik says 'Well, look at you! You're quite the hunter. Not a bad job at all, young citizen. We can sure use a few more like you. I think a little padding of your daily report is in order considering the amount of work that you've done for us. Take this back to citizen Miann. She'll be pleased with you. I wrote it up pretty nice for you. Take care and good luck with your training.'
Your faction standing with Guardians of Shar Vahl got better.
You gain experience!!

She gives you an exagerated report to take back to Kery Miann above the tailoring shop...
Upon handing the report in...

Kery Miann says 'You have done very well, youth. I hope that you are beginning to understand what it means to walk the path of Khati Sha. Public service is very important. Our namesake was a fundamental figure in the foundation of this society. Our walls are made of the ore that he discovered. His exploration of the land that surrounds our home made it possible for us to live here in peace. This leads us to your next lesson. I would like you to seek out the caverns beyond the thicket. A breed of shelled creatures roam the tunnels of those caverns. Occasionally, a strange glow will manifest itself in one of these creatures. Find such a creature and bring me the source of its glow. Wrap the light source in your Khati Sha recruit's cloak and place them both in this box.'
Your faction standing with Khati Sha got better.
You gain experience!!

This appears to start part 5.
She gives you a 2 slot wooden box.
You then have to go to Paludal Caverns

will finish after i finish.

I gained about 4 levels hunting for the hopper tails, extremely rare drop for me. If the zone is controlled by one of the NPC factions you will need a high level toon to come in and kill the leader in the outpost. I picked up a "Mask of the Blind Wolf", and a cloak of the Blind Wolf while there.

leather straps - Part 3
# Sep 11 2005 at 11:32 AM Rating: Decent
ok...I have the HQ Hopper Hides and the small needle blade. How many hides do I need to have to combine with the needle to create the straps? I was doing 2, but when I go to combine these, along with the needle blade, in the stitching pack, it says they cannot be combined in this container type. If this is the case, how do I create the leather straps?

I recently started playing a lower character on a server I haven't spent much time on, so I thought I'd do the newbie quests to fill some time and also give me some decent gear for having no cash. I realize this is the newest post in quite some time, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed, first, that the hopper claws started dropping like crazy, after hearing so many people complain that they never drop (had seriously, like 1 dropping off of every 2, and anywhere around 2-3 of the little guys spawned in the newbie area), and on top of that, I'd never been this far with the quest, it being that I need to collect my tails, put in sack and combine, but I haven't seen a single tail drop off the 40+ rockhoppers I've killed in the newbie zone of Hollowshade... can anyone else confirm this?

*Edit: lol ths just makes me look bad. I've had 4 drop in the past 3 hours of farming. 4 doesn't work in bag. Please change quest info to 6 tails required...*

OK, I'm having some problems here. Rerunning the quest since I screwed it up before somehow...when I have the two straps, do I give that to her with both the primary and secondary claws, or just the primary? Seems to me I've tried both ways, and all I get back are the claws.
Any help here?

Quest for Partners

After reading through all the threads on this quest here on allakhazam and www.eqtraders.com and every subsiquient link found within I have datermined that the best way to complete the quest is for a group of Vah Shir one from each clas to Group togeather as all Vah Shir Quest's are at one poin or another intertwined with the destiny of Shar Vahl. This will also mean that certain parts of the quest will have to be redone to insure each class obtains their Hero Cloak and beyond once this has been accomplished and the group and succeeded in this endeavor the Group would be most definatly a formidibal one. so my call goes out! DEFENDER'S OF SHAR VAHL UNITE!
My currently Level 9 BeastLord (Lnis) is avail for a couple of hours a night usally starting around 8pm MST and also on the weekends and can make arrangements to meet any group minded Vah Shir to complete this quest series and any others. Lnis is currently on the Morden Rasp server. I will mention that I am still very new to Ever Quest I purchased the Platinum pack and am picking up the 8th expansion tonight.I do not plan on getting into EQII for some time as I want to attain at least one high level character before EQII.

I have killed so many Darn Critters there sohouldnt be any darn thing alive in that pit. Gonna change my BST name to (Lnis Pit Runner)!!!!!Well there seem to be several prolems with this quest all in all I have been successful with combining the silk bandages w/ the forged fasteners and I have taken the scrap pice back to the GM but when I return the completed innitial set of wraps w/ my inniates cloak he will not take them? I have retried this 3 time and with the Young Rock Hoppers (The Brown Ones)being so rare this has got me quite disscourraged and have set off on adventuring to get to level 9 which I should make tonight. I really could use some help animist poren never gives me the damn note to take to the next NPC no matter what I do?

I do not seem to be able to place items in the combine slots? But I used the Experiment button above them and a new window with 4 slots opens and I am able to plce the item individually there and combine them / the learning curv for Lnis ( my BeastLord ) is not to bad so far. but all in all this quest is going along with out a hitch. ( SO FAR )

Does anyone know if this quest works for ogres who had the citizenship mq'd? It has been years ago since I (ogre) mq'd citizenship. When I went back about a year ago to start work on it again, no one would talk to me, but I had my acrylia slate. Any info or suggestions would be helpful.

This is the quest from hell. You seem to need to be a gm in taloring before you start. I have just failed my 35th HQ rockhopper hide a newbie quest shouldn't be this hard.

It wasn't a crap bow when it first came out; it was a darned good one. And my ranger made one at level 9 with 75 in fletching. Just because you can get better now doesn't mean the trushot is crap.

hopper claws?
# Aug 07 2004 at 7:00 PM Rating: Decent
ok i can't find anything about hopper claws anywhere on this site please help me
RE: hopper claws?
# Aug 27 2004 at 11:01 PM Rating: Default
The claws are a medium rare drop off of "young rockhoppers" in the pit around Shar Vahl. I had to do this part 3 times before I succeded with a 15 in tailoring... so you might want to collect like 6 of the claws and 12 of the scorpion legs (the ones that don't stack, the ones that stack won't work).

...just my 2 copper's worth :)

Just a little update. Those claws no longer drop in just the Pit. They are also (rarely) found on the same young hoppers droppping the tails in Hollowshade.

You simply failed the combine. You will need to get 3 more bandages and try it again until you succeed. Thus is the pain of tailoring.
