25th Anniversary: Chasing Madness

This task starts with Ghrald McMannus in Katta Castellum. He can be found at /way -301, 150, 69 in the big castle in the northwest section of the zone, up on the 2nd floor in one of the rooms on the south side.
You say, 'Hail, Ghrald McMannus' Ghrald McMannus says, 'Thank you for your diligence in finding us. I don't think I told you that before.' He lets out a hearty sigh and looks with concern over towards Gaius. 'I am at the whims of Gaius' flights of fancy, in hopes that one might lead us to the answer, yet I protect him from anything that may harm him in our [pursuit].' You say, 'What is your pursuit?' Ghrald McMannus says, 'I mentioned before that I think this may be the work of the gods, or a god, but we need some information to try to narrow it down. Whether they have made themselves known to Gaius, he hasn't stated, but I have some potential [sources] of knowledge we can research.' You say, 'What sources are you looking into?' Ghrald McMannus says, 'There are some books regarding visions of various types and the madness that can accompany them. Frankly our history is wrought with examples of various gods affecting fragile mortal minds. A simple touch can do so much to you or me. Would you mind trying to [gather] these books for our research?' You say, 'I will gather the books.' You have been assigned the task 'Chasing Madness'. Ghrald McMannus says, 'Excellent. I appreciate your attention to this. There are two books in particular to look for. One is in the possession of an old acquaintance of mine, Rusbek, in the Misty Thicket. If you give his pups a bite to eat, he might let you know where to find it. He might not entertain giving it up otherwise, and for that I apologize in advance. The other book is one I had been reading in the New Tanaan library. When word came of Gaius' condition, I left rather swiftly, so it was left on one of the tables. It may still be there if no one's restored it back to its shelf.' Ghrald McMannus' friend Gaius Ludanus, an adherent to Drinal the Silver Reaper, has fallen mad under some visions that have started to make themselves known to everyone around them. So far, no one has been hurt but many have gone mad in the process of his travels and in the presence of the small baby dragons that have started popping up in the realms of Norrath and Ludin. Ghrald indicated that giving some treats to Rusbek's wolves should allow you to gain Rusbek’s trust to get your hands on the book he is in the possession of. Ghrald informed you that the book he’s looking for in the New Tanaan library should be on a table there if it hadn’t been put back. Go to Misty Thicket. You can find Rusbek the Inhospitable. He is in the southeaster corner of the zone near a couple of cottages with his 2 wolves. Give one of his wolves any food, I don't think it matters what it is as long as it is food. You offered 1 Iron Ration to Cozy. Rusbek the Inhospitable says, 'Well, that's kind of you, I guess. I'm guessing you're here to sweeten us up for the book? It's inside, in the back. Just, uh, make sure our mutual friend keeps HIS friend away from Misty Thicket.' Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. You complete the trade with Cozy. Quest Text: Rusbek has indicated the book you're looking for is inside his house. Ghrald informed you that the book he's looking for in the New Tannan library should be on a table there is it hadn't been put back. Go into the cottage that Rusbek is standing in front of. The book is located on the table at /way -105, 836, 74 in the library next to Tomeseeker Salkien, near where the Ranger spells are sold, at the base of the stairs going to the next floor. It's the smaller book by itself and not in the stacked books. Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. You say, 'Hail, Ghrald McMannus' Ghrald McMannus skims through the text of the first book, then swiftly flips the other book on top to cross-reference some of the data. 'I'm afraid I have a lot to ingest here. I do have some [requests] to see if we can fill in some blanks.' You say, 'What requests are those?' Ghrald McMannus says, 'I'd like for you to reach out to a few planar representatives of gods who may be involved. First, a Priest of Terris Thule in the Plane of Nightmare. From there, a Priest of Saryrn in the Plane of Torment. If you still can't find exactly what you're looking for, seek a Priest of Ayonae Ro in what was once the Plane of Music. [And then]...' You say, 'And then?' Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. Ghrald McMannus says, 'Zebuxoruk wishes for no worshippers, so finding one, even a priest, may be difficult. You may have better luck seeking the Ungod out directly, if you can figure out WHEN to seek him out...' Quest Text: Speak with a Priest of Terris-Thule's in the Plane of Nightmare for any information as to this mystery. Priest of Nightmares is located at -1351, -1350, 124 in the far southeastern section of the zone in the graveyard in the middle building. He's on Find (Ctrl+F). Be ready for this step, it spawns a mad nightmare that attacks. it's fairly weak (level 106) for players 120+. About 6 million hp and doesn't hit for very much. It drops an item, give it to all in the group in the task. You say, 'Hail, Priest of Nightmares' Priest of Nightmares says, 'Quiet. I am trying to [sleep].' You say, 'You are trying to sleep standing up?' Priest of Nightmares says, 'It's the best way to ensure I fall to the ground to wake myself from the nightmare. It's a beautiful and terrifying [cycle].' You say, 'Why the cycle?' Priest of Nightmares says, 'Some of the delicious terror is in trying to go back to sleep with those nightmarish [visions] freshly intruding into your mind. Will you find yourself in the same horrifying situations, or will more seek to disrupt your hours of rest?' You say, 'I've come to find a priest about visions.' Priest of Nightmares says, 'Do you also want to sleep in horror? Do you want to [see things] that will scare your very soul?' You say, 'It's for a friend. They see things fully awake.' Priest of Nightmares says, 'The mind can wander. Intrusive thoughts can terrify you randomly through your mundane life. What would happen if your mount were to run over a squirrel? Is there a mimic in your outhouse? If you punch the barkeep, how many bones can you break?' He falls into a horrible laughter, the sickening tones catching in his throat shrilly. 'Those are not nightmares, silly mortal. Waking visions are not our [concern] here.' You say, 'They are our concern.' Priest of Nightmares says, 'Very well then. Fight my friend, and he may carry a clue to help you piece together your answer. Know that it is not the Dream Scorcher, for she seeks the slumbering. Oh, little nightmare...!' A mad nightmare laughs at the sight of the adventurer and his eyes widen as he rushes forth! Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. You gain party experience! Be ready in this step, another mobs spawns and attacks. It's weak as well though. Priest of Pain is located at +515,+353,-156 in the west central part of the zone. He's on Find (Ctrl+F). You say, 'Hail, Priest of Pain' Priest of Pain says, 'Oh. You here for [pain]?' You say, 'No, not pain exactly.' Priest of Pain says, 'Pain is glorious sensation. To feel pain is to know the Tormentor. To feel pain is to know beautiful [madness].' You say, 'Yes, I am here about madness.' Priest of Pain says, 'Are you? Madness is not our Tormentor's [domain].' You say, 'Whose domain is it?' Priest of Pain rumbles in amusement. 'You should already know.' A mad torment skitters rapidly to its target! Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. You gain party experience! (0.003%) A mad torment's corpse returns to the Torment from which it arose. Loot Dollop of Insanity from a mad torment's corpse. Loot the item from its corpse. You say, 'Hail, Priestess of Music' Priestess of Music says, 'Ah, a sane soul! With Mayong's loss of divinity, it is so comforting to see another here not touched by his power. What [brings] you to the recovering Demi-Plane of Music?' You say, 'Ayonae Ro's status brings me. Is she well?' Priestess of Music says, 'The Maestra continues to recover in her tower! We appreciate your concern, friendly mortal, and will pass your well wishes along. With this Demi-Plane a manifestation of her music, will, and experiences, it will take some time to return to something untouched by the former Blood God's [influence].' You say, 'The influence will be felt by many for some time.' Priestess of Music says, 'Yes. The [madness] he put her through in order to take and twist her Demi-Plane... His was but borrowed power and this Theater but a borrowed Plane.' You say, 'What can you tell me of her madness?' Priestess of Music says, 'It was but a tool to create for Mayong. The madness originated with him, but the Demi-Plane you see here is still her song. She has changed the key and the tempo, but that doesn't change that we still must [reach] the codetta before moving on.' You say, 'May she reach it in her time.' Priestess of Music agrees, 'Everything in time. You have a friend who is suffering madness, yes? Please, help me help a friend move on to their part in the next verse, and perhaps they can help you in your own way.' She calls an old friend. A mad griever stares with wide, begging eyes. Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. You gain party experience! (0.005%) A mad griever's corpse screams, the sound starting shrill but soon joins the harmony of the land around her. A mad griever has been slain! A Smidgen of Loss was given to you. --You have looted a Smidgen of Loss from a mad griever's corpse.-- Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. The Smidgen of Loss wrenches at your heart, but it sounds as though it will fit in this puzzle. Quest Text: Speak with Zebuxoruk the Ungod in The Void for any information as to this mystery. This step, you need to go to The Void that's off of Ethernere Tainted West Karana. You say, 'Hail, Zebuxoruk' Zebuxoruk says, 'You come again. Who do you propose made his visions this time? You take on the experiences of your life, your experiences of every battle you have fought, and the challenges that you have won and conquered. Have you met her this cycle? No, no, for she is illusive, isn't she? Through timelines I have seen you help Gaius, and I have seen you fail, and I have seen you succeed, yet you have yet to find her before you seek me, don't you? In any case, take this, as I know you'll need it, as you have before.' Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. The Pinch of Foresight may be what completes this mysterious recipe. Quest Text: With several "ingredients" now in hand, speak with Ghrald McMannus back in Katta Castellum for his recommendations from here. You offered 1 Pinch of Foresight to Ghrald McMannus. Before the pieces of this mysterious recipe could be examined, the individual collections coalesce into a vision. Instead of dragons or the man in white that already stands physically near them, a vision of another demi-goddess graces their collective view. Vision of Vazaelle says, 'It's so fun to see your favorite things all the time, isn't it? So very, very, very fun.' And then with a scream that reverberates through the room, she's gone, as though she never was there. Gaius seems unaffected, but Ghrald is visibly shaken. Ghrald McMannus says, 'Adventurer! I believe I know what we need to do with these ingredients now. Come back to me in a bit, and I will have more information for you.' Your task 'Chasing Madness' has been updated. The presence of Vazaelle the Mad, or at least a vision of her, has given some answer as to who, but the question of why remains a mystery. I had been hoping that these level 106 entities might have been adjusted to some lower levels, to enable everyone to enjoy as many 25th Anniversary quests as possible. It is disappointing that this has not been done; my 102 Ranger could only complete Chasing What Isn't There and the first hand-ins of Chasing Madness and none of the fights. Very sad that the opportunity was missed for some more inclusive activities on such an occasion of rejoicing.
There is this thing called a group.
Actually, it says level 100 and it's described as a Solo quest.

Solo has never meant you can solo the mission/task. It means that you can OBTAIN it by yourself, that you don't have to have a group to be given the task. Whether you can do it by yourself is another question entirely.

Ah, well, thanks for that clarification, tabalar. All the same, I am still disappointed that all the focus is on the highest levels!
