This is the Vah Shir Beastlord quest series. You must first do the citizenship quest.

    Part 1 - Handwraps

Animist Poren needs to see your Acrylia Slate.

Animist Poren says "I have much for you to do . There is a great need for capable Khati Sha in this new land. It is important that you progress speedily. We need to outfit you with the equipment that defines our chosen path. We'll start with your battleclaws, but be aware of the fact that it will take you some time.before you can use both sets in combat. Just keep them both with you while you learn.

Animist Poren says "Take this stitching pack and combine two shadeling silks from the xakra worms. Combine two of the threads to make a bandage. Take this pattern and sew together three of the bandages. With considerable practice this will produce the handwraps that will be a foundation for your first sacred weapon. When you have created them retuen to me the scrap material.

He then gives you a Khati Sha Handwrap Pattern and a Stitching Pack.

    To make the handwraps:

    (1) Combine two shadeling silks in the Stitching Pack to make a Shade Silk Thread. Silks are found on the Xakla Larvae in the pit (Shar Vahl) and on the Xakla Silkworms in Shadeweaver's Thicket.
    (2) Combine 2 Shade Silk Threads in the Stitching Pack to make a Shade Silk Bandage.
    (3) Combine 3 Shade Silk Bandages and the Khati Sha Handwrap Pattern to make Khati Sha Handwraps.

Successfully making the Handwraps (which is possible with a Tailoring skill of 4 - though unlikely!) also generates a Silk Scrap. Return the scrap to Animist Poren for part 2 of the quest

    Part 2 - Claws

Upon giving Animist Poren the Shade Silk Scraps:

Animist Poren says, 'That took quite some time considering the simplicity of the task. Please _______, work on becoming more efficient. We have much to do and time is of the essence. In your stitching pack, combine the handwraps, two young hopperclaws and forged fasteners. Return to me with the resulting claws and your [initiate's cloak.]'

    You gain experience!

    You say, 'What initiate's cloak?'

Animist Poren says, 'You should have received your initiate's cloak if you presented your acrylia slate and notarized application to Elder Animist Sahdi. You can give those two items to him if you have not already and receive your cloak.'

You say, 'What are forged fasteners?'

Animist Poren says, 'Perhaps one of our smiths can assist you with the forged fasteners. I'd check the armory.'

Ask Kagazz about "Forged Fasteners". He is behind the armoury by the forge at (/loc 254, -182, -189).

You say, 'Can you make forged fasteners?'

Kagazz squints as he reads your lips, 'Fasteners you say? Show me your slate and I'll make you a deal.

Give him your Acrylia Slate of Sharl Vahl. He returns it and says:

Kagazz says, 'My wife is making some jewelry. Not the sparkly stuff, mind you. She is nearly blind so appearance means little to her. She is intent on making jewelry with a more, uhh, natural feel. Currently she's constructing a special scorpion leg necklace, and is in need of more scorpion legs. I can't leave the shop so I need your help. Fill this box with scorpion legs and I'll pay you with metal fasteners that any merchant will gladly buy.'

Collect four NO TRADE "Scorpion Leg" or four "Scorpion Legs" (these latter are marked as QUEST ITEM and are stackable). Either will work but they cannot be mixed. Combine these in the box Kagazz gave you to receive Box of Scorpion Legs. Return this to him to receive one (1) Forged Fasteners. Also note that the fasteners are NO TRADE so any merchant will not, in fact, gladly buy them as he claimed.

    Upon Turn in:

Kagazz says, 'Ahh, _______! I thank you, my wife will be most grateful. Here are the fasteners I promised you. You know ______, there was a time that young, would-be smiths would seek my approval so that they could study the ways of the forge under my tutelage. That was back when I was Master Smith, before I named Barkhem my successor.'
    You gain experience!

    Combine:

    1x Forged Fastners,
    2x Young Hopperclaw,
    1x Khati Sha Handwraps,
    In the Stitching Pack

On successful combine, you receive Primary Silk Khati Sha Claw and Secondary Silk Khati Sha Claw. NOTE: the Handwraps are lost in the combine and are not returned in a later stage of the quest.

Return both Silk Khati Sha Claws AND your Initiate's Cloak of Shar Vahl to Animist Poren. Animist Poren is at 275, 47, -258. Enter the castle (west central district), descend the stairs, and turn right. Walk through the arch and turn right again. Descend the stairs at the end of the hallway. Enter the door and take the door on your left. Animist Poren is in this room.

    Upon Turn In:

Animist Poren says "Well, you're off to a slow start, but it is a start. You will do well to accomplish your tasks in a more timely fashion. You have chosen a path full of trials, . I say again, time is of the essence. Take my seal to Mahron Sood and prepare yourself for the upcoming challenges."

    You gain experience!

You recieve: Reinforced Primary/Secondary Claws as well as the Cloak of The Khati Sha Recruit and the Seal of Animist Poren

Animist Poren shouts " Friends, I have news to share! It has taken longer than it should, but at last has completed our initiatory tasks and will now be given the priveleges reserved for the Khati Sha recruits!. Soon we hope to have this citizen ready to aid in the exploring of this new land. Please give support in whatever ways you can and trouble this recruit as little as possible, for seems to be easily distracted."

Just thought i would let everyone know that the trivial for the thin leather straps that you have to turn into Kiery Mann is at least 56. Last night, when combined to create my second strap, I advance in tailoring skill to 57. This contradicts a couple of sites that say the trivial is around 40.

Well its off to hunt for hopper tails.

Ok if for some reason you messed the quest up there is a way to do it again ! I just did it last nite ! All ya have to do is get someone else todo the 1st quest over again from the begining and when they get to the part where they hade the slate and stamped document to the register this is where you step in ! You go to the 1st guy again that gives the slate out.. Murah I think is his name ! Then when the other guy hands the register the stamped document then you hand in the slate and then you should get the note to take to the king to get him to sign off on it ! Then take the signed note from king back to registar and you should get a new acrylia slate and a note to take to guild leader .. and then you can start your claw quest over again and your cloak quest over again from the very beginning.. btw I would destroy all of the original stuff that you got from the 1st time you tried to do the quest .. like the stitching kit.. the 1st acrylia slate.. the old cloak or the old claws .. just destroy them all .. you will get them back no problem.. hope this helps ya out.. I did it last nite and made it all the way to the part where I have to combine 2 pup teeth in the container to make my claws magic.. And btw you need to do these to get the uber cloak upgrades from grimlings zone !

If you have done the citizenship quest but destroyed/lost the acrylia slate then just go to the registrar binadah and tell him "I have lost my acrylia slate." He will give you a new one. Then to get the cloak give the new slate to the registrar and he will give you the note to the king and then follow the quest again for a new cloak.

This works for the slate part but I tried giving her back the slate to get the note for the king she just gave me back the slate with the usual - I have no need for this you idiot.

(I'd accidentally destroyed the cloak not the slate)

I found the only way to get the note was to MQ it (which incidentally still works as at Apr, 24 2003 =)

I don't know if this is even a concern for you anymore but i have the answer. I had abandoned this quest for a time because of the extreme frustration it caused but being the perfectionist that i am the thought of not completing it kept nagging at me and i happened upon a response from someone that helped me out tremendously. If you need to get another initiate's cloak destroy all of the quest items (ie: the pattern, the gloves, anything you got from the quest BUT DON'T DESTROY THE ACRYLIA SLATE) then camp directly by the guildmaster. log off and make a new beastlord character and go through the quest until you get to the part where you need to give the piece of paper and your acrylia slate to the guildmaster but only give the paper to him he will then say "this item alone means nothing to me" then sit and log off again and get your old character out. with your old character give your old acrylia slate to the guildmaster and he will give you the cloak allowing you to complete the quest. Please note that it is imperitive that you desroy all of the former items you recieved for the quest besides your acrylia slate. ALL BUT YOUR ACRYLIA SLATE!!!!! I hope this helps although you posted this a while back and might refuse to willingly expose yourself to frstration ahead. Smiley: grin

Has anyone been able to pull this off? How do you get the cooperation?

Yes. I've been doing the /w all class 25 60 in increments of 5. Then a /tell to ask if they have started it and have a piece to trade. So far I've found a Warrior that wound up completing it the same way. He was nice enough to make his piece for me. I also found a Rogue and was able to trade mine for theirs. Through /w all I've located a Shaman and a Bard that have started the quest but ready to trade.

The big problem I see with this quest is. It's my opinion when Luclin opened most of at lest 50% or better of the newbie Vah Shir classes left Luclin zones for other zones down on the Planet for they new which zones down there to level up in instead of staying up on the moon.

Since they were not on the moon they did not need to do the quests. In my search I have found a lot of Vah Shir classes that have never heard of the quest.

I can do the tailoring and actually have the claws and cloak - now working on the next cloak. I don't know - a really hard quest, but makes one feel good to get it accomplished. I begged, borrowed and stold to get all the items. Check the bazaar, I found 3 of the items there for under 50pp

If anyone needs the tailoring item, send me a tell.

you have to kill 'a glowing muck digger' (lvl 13-15) found in Paludal Caverns(loc n2960 n888). he will drop 'a glowing heart stone' (lore no drop). You have to combine this stone with your Khati Sha recruit Cloak and returning the box to Kery ...

Indeed, this quest is extensive and is the introduction to the Luclin war series. If you go to www.eqtraders.com you can find extensive information for doing the followup steps to this quest. The main followup, the Sonic Wolf Bane weapons, is extremely difficult because it requires you to get crafted items from every class of Vah Shir. If you can pull it off, you'll be able to continue to update your class cloak as well as open up the Hollow Shade War quests.

Tips upto the really hard bit...
    # Jan 29 2003 at 8:54 AM Rating: Decent
Hopper tails - 6 needed. Took me over 8 hours. Last 4 of them with help of 47 necro - Especially if you get attacked by Dirtchomp or Borehorn(?) which killed my real fast.

    Just keep at it.

Molar teeth - I got 2 molars 1 kill after the other. I only killed maybe 10 wolves. - Took me longer to get to spot then get the teeth.

Goto Grimling Forest Zone entrance, it is much easy to pull to here as its more open, the molars dropped off a wolfling and a pup. So it broadens your options, you can certainly get the molars off wolfling as well as pups. Remember to keep all of the no drop stuff you get as well ie wolf blood and sinews store them up and stick em in a bag in bank. You'll be using them very soon...

Class specific items...erm? eh? nah...no such thing. By class specific it means Shaman generally are considered to be brewers or potters warriors are generally considered smiths beastlords as tailors. But you can make ALL of the required items yourself. Of course it will take time, lots of trade skill work. I understand the avg requirement is around 150 of each skill. Tailoring, Pottery, Brewing and Smithing as req'd.

follow the ingredients in the 5pp books (x3) and buy a weapon building kit (5pp) Start with book 1 collect the items, dont get the amount required get 100 times the amount or more! lol, remember you will fail, so use this epic to your tradeskill advantage. Once your skills are around 135 in the required skill you are about to use try making the particular item. Fail alot stop and build your skill up abit OR what i did, log out, reboot and login...has nothing to do with game but i think it changed my luck!! The end results overcomes all your hatred for quests!

Thanks for any help, as I'm really stuck!
    HQ hopper hide
    # Jan 07 2003 at 7:23 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a lvl9 kitty beastlord, and I've been at this quest for a week now. I am at the end of part3. I'm having problems getting HQ hopper hide. I've had friends help me try and I've tried looking for it at Merchants. I've luckly gotten 3, but was only able to craft 1 strap. Where in the heck do I get the hides?

To the others doing this quest....
It took me one try to get everything crafted. I had no problems. What I did was, when I killed the larva and got their silks I would craft them to make bandages. I did this till I couldn't gain any more skills in Tailoring, (20). After that I was able to craft all the other things with no problems. It may not work for everyone, but it is worth a try.
Also while you are working on this quest, I do advise you to take part in another quest. There are several in Shade's Thicket and in Shar Vahl. The more you do in the quests, the more experience you get, thus the closer to the next level. In one day I leveled 4 times, just because I was working on quests. You can get all kinds of things with quests. Do Them!
And don't be afraid to ask higher players to help you out. I use to have a lvl12 till the server deleted it (don't ask). But with that character it took me forever to get this quest done. I mean months. But you live and learn. *got off subject* lol. When I was a lvl12 kitty beastlord, I use to help newbies out all the time. I would give them armor, or weapons, or whatever it was they needed or that I could spare. Since I've had to restart, nothing has changed. I've got other kitty friends (that i've been friends with for a good long time), that still help me out even though they are no longer in that area. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Kitty Beastlords are not easy, But they are SO FUN! ;)

Ok, this quest is extremely frustrating. It took three tries just to make the wraps in part one. I am now in part two and my tailoring skill is around 25 or 26, whatever max is for doing patchwork. I have attempted part 2 three times and failed every time. I don't get any exp any more from the pit unless i kill tailfang. So, what level of tailoring do i need before i try this again? So i can do other things but run in circles around the pit. Thx

I feel your frustration. I had a tailoring skill of 56 and failed the combine on the claws five times. :(

I raised my tailoring up to 88, made the combine, and found the skill was trivial to me (i.e., "you can no longer raise skill...").

    # Nov 23 2002 at 7:25 PM Rating: Decent
I have a level 14 Vah Shir beast lord, and yes this quest is very frustrating to begin with. I advise you get your tailoring skill to at least 35 before you try again, go to eqtraders to find out the cheapest way to increase your skill level. Be prepared to fail even at higher skill levels though, I got the combine on the second try with a skill level af about 35, but I know of others who took up to 7 tries with even higher skill levels than that. I think it trivials at around 32, it was trivial at 35 anyway. Good Luck.

I have completed my part of the quest, have been advised that other i need to get other players to make the other class parts....The question I have is, once these have been made, how do they give them me to combine them(as the items are no drop)

    Thanks

I'm having a problem and I'm hoping someone can help.

When I do the combine of the forged fastenings, the gloves and the two claws all I receive is a set of secondary claws, nothing else.

First time I did this quest I handed these claws and my cloak in to the NPC who kept them and did/said nothing :(
After petitioning and talking to a GM (who kindly returned the items) it was hinted that there should be two sets of claws. None of the NPCs mention two sets of claws.

So, how can I get a set of 'primary' claws ?

p.s. If you lose your cloak it IS possible to get a replacement by multiquesting.

I recently finished the first claws part of this quest on the Kane Bayle server... I combined the hand wraps, the two young hopper claws, and the forged fasteners (why isn't the newbie quest *no fail*??) and I got two claws... on specificly labeled primary, and another specificly labeled secondary. Both were attached to my mouse curser once I clicked combine (and it was successful) I just had to drop them one at a time into seperate slots in my backpack.

I didn't turn them in correctly the first time though, I mistakenly gave poren (sp?) my primary claw and my acrylia slate (forgot what to turn in) and he gave me back my slate (and ate my primary claw) and told me the first step as if I was starting over... realizing my mistake, I then gave him my secondary claw and my initiates cloak... this time he gave me back both claws, a recruit's cloak, and his seal.

in short, to complete this part I just gave him one claw and my cloak and it was fine.

I don't intend to use the claws anyway since I have a better weapon already... but I was able to get past that stage of the quest with no problem

I've found a way to get these to spawn. Go to the north bridge (near the Hollowshade zone) and down into the pit. Run around till you see lots of scorpions spawning. Kill the scorpions and some will spawn the young rockhoppers. I got about 5 or 6 to spawn till I logged. I hope this helps.
